PKM has committed itself to the the international environmental registration system MPS - Milieu Programma Sierteelt - which assesses the resource consumption of the production in an overall perspective and makes demands in respect of consumption of energy, nutrition and pesticides as well as waste handling. Since 1 June 2004, PKM has been classified in the best category as an A-rated nusery.
All the same, the use of pesticides and growth retarder is inevitable. Hence, many forces are spend on research and development of alternatives to the chemical growth retarder, which today is necessary to ensure compact and saleable plants. PKM's Research and Development division work intensely with the problems within their own main crops.
In November 2012, Gartneriet PKM A/S was also MPS-GAP certified.
