THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® – in a class of its own

Here is the story of why FAIRYTALE FLOWERS® named a bellflower after the Danish crown princess. THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® was christened by HRH Crown Princess Mary. Just as in a true fairytale, hard work was needed to achieve the result – a bellflower worthy of a princess.

It takes time to convert nature's wild flowers into saleable potted plants. THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® was bred at PKM's product development department. It took more than 25 years for the beautiful bellflower to complete the process. It is one thing to develop new products, but they also have to be thoroughly tested, so that we can be confident of delivering products in the high quality that is the hallmark of FAIRYTALE FLOWERS®.

The first version of THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® was presented in 2006. The plant has an abundance of buds, a compact, pyramidal growth form, and good durability. The large, bell-shaped flowers have a delicate light blue colour and a mild floral scent. In August 2006, HRH Crown Princess Mary could finally christen the plant THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® – naturally with a bottle of champagne – at the opening of the Flower Festival in Odense. This beautiful bouquet has been bound with THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® by Birgit Nouri, Blomsterhuset in Otterup. You can read more about the christening here [Fyens Stiftstidende].

Having a bellflower named by a princess implies certain responsibilities. Our product development department has therefore continued to refine THE CROWNPRINCESS' BELLFLOWER®.

The result is a new clone that we have marketed in 2010, and which we call THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® White. The white colour and pyramidal growth form makes THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® ideal for many uses, such as a pretty table decoration for a wedding.

THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® originally comes from the Greek mountains, and can therefore cope with both hot days and cold nights. The refined version of THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER ® has inherited its climatic adaptability from its wild ancestor, and is therefore suitable for both indoor use and for planting out in garden beds, patio pots and window boxes.

We're not the only ones who are enthusiastic about the beautiful white bellflower. On 25 August 2010, THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER® White won a gold medal at Plantarium, the international exhibition of nursery products in Boskoop, the Netherlands. FAIRYTALE FLOWERS® also won the international Press Award for THE CROWN PRINCESS' BELLFLOWER ® in both white and blue, and last but not least, PKM received first place in the nominations for best stand in the "Business" category. The jury was impressed by the Danish stand, which was targeted at garden centres.
