At PKM, we are proud to take a significant step toward a more sustainable and efficient future in plant production. With a massive upgrade of 73,000 m² of our greenhouse area, we have invested in state-of-the-art LED lighting systems that will revolutionize the way we produce plants.

This substantial investment, amounting to a double-digit million sum, is a clear expression of our continued commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. By switching to LED technology, we expect to reduce our energy consumption by around 30%. This not only represents a major economic saving for us but also a significant reduction in our CO2 footprint – a win for both the company and the environment.

 

Why LED?

LED lighting brings many benefits, especially when it comes to sustainability and energy efficiency:

• Energy savings: With LED lighting, we can reduce electricity consumption by up to 50%, making our production much more energy efficient.
• Sustainability: The reduced energy consumption contributes to significantly lower CO2 emissions, helping us take a green step forward.
• Future-proof: Switching to LED also ensures that we meet future legal requirements regarding the use of conventional light sources.

What changes?

With the new LED systems, there will also be some adjustments in our work process:

• Adjusting heat levels: LED products emit less heat than traditional lamps, so we will adjust our heat in the greenhouses to ensure that the plants still grow in an optimal climate.
• The learning curve: Although we can benefit from the experience of other manufacturers already using LED systems, we will still need to adjust and fine-tune the systems to perfectly fit our specific setup.

Testing and preparation

We are already in the process of testing the new LED systems to be well-prepared for the upcoming main season. This testing phase allows us to optimize the system and ensure that it delivers the desired results before full-scale production begins.
